I pray that you all are walking with the grace of God, and moving forward in your purpose. There comes a time in our journey that we will stop complaining and start building ourselves in faith and righteousness. That starts with letting go of blame or past events and stepping forward in walking with those lessons. Lessons that you walk with! These lessons are meant to show you how strong you are, not how bad you have it.
Today we are in 1 Samuel Chapter 17, we are going to walk through Davids Journey, in this chapter he will face Goliath. But first!

1 Samuel Chapter 17
David and Goliath
verse 1 – 11
In these verses we learn that Israel lined up to battle the Philistines. Goliath stepped out at nine feet with a challenge, If any one can kill him then the Philistine’s would be servants of Israel and if he beat the person then Israel would be servant of Philistines. Goliath stated to the men that he was defying and breaking Israel ranks and was challenging any man. His words terrified Saul and his men.
When I was reading the verses two words came to me spirit. BOASTFUL & FEAR. When we come up against that great challenge in our lives, it may be boastful when we look at it. “You can’t have a financial break through” “Look at me,I am too high of a goal for you to reach” “letting me go! you’ll be nothing without me”. Not being able to do that one great thing, or let go of that one painful thing, will post fear in position to block you. In the scripture Goliath’s main job was to discourage and post fear in position for an attack.
verse 12 – 37
The word says that for forty days Goliath would call out his challenge every morning and every evening. Jesse, Davids father sent him to take somethings to his brothers and to there commander and go back with a report on how everyone was doing. David packed up and took his journey, when he arrived to the camp he saw that the men were on the battle lines and greeted his brothers.
The word says that David then heard Goliath bringing out his challenge. David was told that the king will pay the man who would take the challenge well, for taking down Goliath. David asked “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” When Davids older brother Eliab heard him speaking to the other men he became angry and told David to go back to his sheep he was just there to watch the battle. What David had said got back to Saul and Saul sent for David.
The word says that David took the challenge. Saul told him that he was just a boy and couldn’t beat a man who had been fighting since his youth. David told Saul that He had to fight lions and bears to get his sheep back. The same God that was with him then is with him now. Saul told David to Go and let the Lord be with him.
I’m sure you seen so many kind of people in these verses. When we are trying to walk in righteousness or just walk in our purpose there are going to be people who think they know your intentions (Eliab) , and then there’s going to be people who will discourage you ( Saul) . It is by faith that we live, the faith that God will come in and move us in his power. The faith that lets us know that we are over comers. David didn’t understand how these men feared Goliath, he asked where is their faith?
verse 38 – 58
The scripture tells us that Saul dressed David up in his tunic and armor, David walked around in it to get a feel but didn’t feel right so he took off everything grabbed five smooth stones and went to meet the Philistine.
When Goliath saw young handsome David he had gotten upset, he began to tell David that he will give him to the birds in the air. David told Goliath that the battle is the Lord’s and the Lord will deliver him into the hands of Israel. The word says Goliath started to rush toward David and David ran to the battle line put his stone in the sling and swung it the stone his Goliath on the forehead and the stone sunk in killing Goliath he fell face down to the ground. David ran up to Goliath took his sword and cut his head off. When the Philistines saw that Goliath was dead, they began to run away in fear and the Israelites began to chase them to Gath. The word says; when Saul saw David kill Goliath he asked his commander “whose son David was” The commander answered by telling Saul that he didn’t know. when David returned to from killing Goliath he was brought to Saul and was asked who his father was. David replied “Your servant Jesse from Bethlehem”
The story of David and Goliath will always be an over comers story. Even when being discouraged David still went forward. When Saul tried to dress David up in his things, that was like saying David wasn’t good enough. After walking around a bit in Saul’s clothes it didn’t feel right. So what did David do, he took it off and went to the battle as himself. It’s when we bring ourselves to the battle we show God that we have faith in him to do what is needed . Not for our sake but for his sake. So they will know that He is Lord. On the first shot the stone killed Goliath. We have to put the stone in the sling shot and go to the battle line. Taking the faith that God is has created you for this purpose, then take the shot knowing that he is with you.
