Esther Chapter 9

On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar the enemies of the Jews had hoped to over power them.

The Jews of all provinces had gathered together in their cities and seeked out those that was out for their destruction.

No one could stand against them because all the other nationalities were afraid of them.

All the satraps, nobles, governor’s and king administrators helped the Jews, because fear of Mordecai had overcome them.

Mordecai was prominent in the palace his reputation spread through out the provinces and he became more and more powerful.

The Jews struck down all their enemies with the sword, killing and destroying them. In the citdal of Susa they killed five hundred men. They killed the sons of Haman but did not lay hands on their household stuff, their property.

The amount of people slain in the citdal Susa was reported to the king the same day.

King Xerxes went to Queen Esther and says ” The Jews have destroyed five hundred men and ten sons of Haman in the citdal of Susa. What have they done in the rest of the king’s province? What is your petition?  What is your request? It will also be granted.

Esthers answer was that the king allows the Jews to carry out the edict the next day also.

The king commanded it to be done and the next day they hung the ten sons of Haman. The Jews came together on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and they put to death three hundred men but they did not lay hands on their household stuff.

Now the Jews in the other provinces of the king, also assembled to protect themselves and get relief from their enemies.they killed seventy-five thousand of them but did not touch their household stuff. They did this on the thirteenth day and rested on the fourteenth day and made it a day of feast and joy and rest.

You know all the blood shed, I can’t help but think how the jews must have felt, they spent much time praying in sackcloth and ashes to God, for his mercy on their people for a solution so that their people wouldn’t die, and then God placed Esther in a position to be there for them, to step up when they least expected her to.

Esther said if I perish, I perish she was willing to lay her life down for her people, but God had put it in the kings heart to favor and be pleased in the sight of Esther that he just wanted to please his Queen.

For the Jews their prayers were answered, God heard their wails and crys and cleared the path for them not to go killing for nothing and risk sinning but for them to defend themselves. It became  a war not for territory but for a freedom to live.

When the bible says they did not lay hands on their plunder (household things) I’m  thinking that if they did it wouldn’t have been self defense but personal gain. This war was morebthen territory it was a war for freedom and respect of Gods people, who did not started but just defended themselves from it.

Now on the fifteenth day the Jews of Susa rested and made it a day of feast and joy.

Mordecai recorded the events and sent it out to all the jews in all the provinces of king Xerxes to have them celebrate annually on the fourteenth and the fifteenth days of the month of the Adar as the time when the jews got relief. Mordecai wrote it as a day of feast and joy.

The days of the Jews fighting against their enemies and and Haman’s sons being hung were called the days of Purim.
